How to take a break from the grog

Giving up the booze for just a short time can result in heaps of short- and long-term health benefits, as a recent UK study reminded us.

More than 100 people took part, and there was an average weight loss of 3kg after only a month of sobriety. It also significantly reduced their risk of liver and cholesterol related diseases.

But I know what you’re thinking: getting through the weekend without alcohol? Isn’t that just too hard? Well, it doesn’t have to be and here are three top tips to help you do it.

  1. Why not use the energy you put into busting out those embarrassing dance moves or picking your mate up off the ground on a night out for something positive? Try that hobby you’ve always wanted to, go to that awesome place you’ve heard of…the possibilities are endless.
  2. Keep counting the cash you save from not having a boozy night on the tiles. Then treat yourself to a holiday, the latest tech phenomenon or those to-die-for shoes you’ve been drooling over for weeks.
  3. One of the best ways to make life easier when you’re trying to stay off the drink is to rope a mate in to do it with you. Not only will you get the moral support, but you’ll be helping them make a positive change. Win-win!
